It’s not often that you get to see your heroes at arm’s length, albeit through a glass wall. I was looking forward to the first online session scheduled on 10th October 2020. Some of my favourite watches in the list were: As preparation for the first round, we were given a list of movies and TV series belonging to a variety of genres and asked to watch them. #Kumbalangi nights rangan movie#We were asked to provide a brief resume of our previous writing experience, along with four movie reviews (from a list of choices).ĥ5 participants were selected for the first round from a pool of applicants from all over the country and I was delighted to be one of them. Instead, the programme was adapted for an online session and we were given the opportunity to apply. With the nation in the throes of the COVID Pandemic, I was apprehensive about the programme being cancelled. Things didn’t look rosy this year though. Tejas Nair’s account of the time he spent in the lab motivated me to apply for it. This was the event that I most looked forward to after reading about another critic’s experience in an earlier edition. The Critics Lab is an opportunity for aspiring film critics to learn from the best in the field and meet like-minded peers. Events include interviews of film personalities regarding their art and craft, a screening of hand-picked movies and the Young Critics Lab workshop. The Mumbai Academy of Moving Images (MAMI) hosts the Mumbai Film Festival every year, an event that brings together filmmakers, film enthusiasts and critics all over the country together for a celebration of the medium.
